Ireland is a country steeped in legend and myth and the Giant's Causeway is one the most enchanting legends there is...
Long, long ago an Irish giant named Fionn mac Cumhail was locked in a bitter feud with a Scottish giant called Benandonner. Fionn built the causeway so he could walk to Scotland and fight his sworn enemy. Some legends state that Fionn (also known as Finn McCool) fell asleep on the causeway, before he got to Scotland. Benandonner, who was a much larger and scarier giant waited for Fionn to arrive, but he did not. So Benandonner crossed to fight his sleeping foe. Fionn's wife saw the larger Scot's giant and threw a blanket over her sleeping husband. She then pretended to Benandonner that the sleeping giant was her 'baby'. Benandoner was shocked at the size of this 'baby' and guessed that Fionn must be massive indeed. So, Benandoner fled home to Scotland and ripped up the Giant's Causeway just in case Fionn followed him.
